Day 14 07/19/2019 Today is are last day of the trip. Many of the students woke up at 5:00am to collect sand dollars at the beach. I was certainly not one of the students. I was drained from the day at the beach.  So I decided to sleep in a bit longer. Today was a busy day. We had to clean our tents. Check in sleeping bags, water pouches, back packs and sleeping mats. We also a lot of cleaning and  inventory on food items. we packed up and started our 5 hour drive back home. This was one of the longest drives we did not this trip. During this time, I was able to reflect on the trip as a whole. I am grateful for the learning opportunity I was given on this trip. The knowledge I have gained on this trip I am able to share with the university and community members back home. I thought I really knew what was going in the world, but it wasn't until I went on this trip where I was able to really see the issues first hand. Reflecting on this trip made me realized that I might have d

Day 13

Day 13 July 18, 2019 We packed up and heading over to the beach. Beach was located in Lincoln City OR.  Once we arrived to the beach, we were getting vans situated. Dr. Black let us get out of the van and I started running out of the van. I did not stop running until I hit the ocean at this point my pants and shoes were all wet. I did not care that my clothes were wet,my heart was filled with joy. I haven't been at the beach since I was in 5th grade.  After the joyful run we came back to our campsite and we started to put are tents up. My group had to make dinner this night. We made Chicken and beef tacos! After dinner, I headed over to the beach again. We got to watch the sunset, it was beautiful sight to see. As the sun was setting, we made a bonfire on the beach. We gathered around one more time.

Day 12

Day 12 7/17/2018   We had our day planned out at the Klamath Tribes itinerary facility where we met Alex Gonyaw. Alex is an environmental science from Vermont but has been living in Oregon for quite some time. We talked about how dams affect ecosystems and endemic species. We also got to walk to a Link River trial to a dam site. The river here did not smell good. During this time, we also had a lunch break. We had sandwiches again... We headed back to our campsite during this time a group was making stew for dinner. We had a eldery named jeff. He spoke to us about many of the challenges that his own tribe faces. He also spoke about how he has fought to have dam taken down. By 2020 they will successfully have taken down 4 dams. He and three of local tribes had been fighting since 1993. He never gave him and I really admire him for that. It really shows what you can if you stay consistent.

Day 11

Day 11 7/16/2019 We woke up really early and started to pack up our tents. Before we left our campsite we picked up our tents. Before we left my team the Red Raccoons picked up are trail cams. We checked them when we got back to our camp site we actually caught a lot of deer and turkey vultures! It was so neat to see to footage.   Head headed out about 8:30am. We drove about a few us to visit Wineman Forest & Crater Lake. Crater Lake was such a beautiful spot to visit. It is the deepest lake in the United States! You can see the volcano in the middle of the lake. It looked like a small island. The water surrounding the volcano was really blue. We also did a small hike it was about 3.5 miles going up and coming back down. The hike was called the Watchman Lookout.   Going up this hike gave you an ever better view of Crater Lake. After our hike we headed to the gift shop to get a few items to remind us of our visit at crater lake. We uploa

Day 10

Day 10 7/15/2019 It was really cold this morning. I couldn’t really get up due to how cold it was. We got separated into teams. One group has just environment studies majors and the 2 nd group had criminal justice, nursing majors. I was part of the 2 nd group, we started by working at meadow where a lot of reed canary grass was over growing in. Our goal was to try to work as a team and clear as much of the red canary grass as we could. Tom walker provided us with working boots and weightier. This would help us from getting are clothes wet. Unfortunately, my suit had a hole and my clothes got wet. My boots were also full of water.   This still did not stop me from pulling any of the weeds out. It was great experience. I also learn how important it is to keep our water meadows balanced. After we working for a few hours it was time for lunch at 11:30pm-12:00pm. We head over to a different part of the woods to do some more work service.
