Day 12
Day 12
7/17/2018
We had our day
planned out at the Klamath Tribes itinerary facility where we met Alex Gonyaw.
Alex is an environmental science from Vermont but has been
living in Oregon for quite some
time. We talked about how dams affect ecosystems and endemic
species.
We also got to walk to a Link River trial to a dam site.
The river here did not smell good.
During this time, we also had a lunch break. We had
sandwiches again...
We headed back to our campsite during this time a group was
making stew for dinner.
We had a eldery named jeff. He spoke to us about many of the
challenges that his own tribe faces. He also spoke about how he has fought to
have dam taken down. By 2020 they will successfully have taken down 4 dams. He
and three of local tribes had been fighting since 1993.
He never gave him and I really admire him for that. It
really shows what you can if you stay consistent.
